The Graduate Student Council (GSC) of the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia is composed of graduate students from different areas of the department. Our general aim is to serve the graduate students in the department by acting as a bridge between the faculty/staff and the graduate students.
Specifically, the GSC:
- Works to improve the overall experience of graduate students (see our Survival Guide and other Resources)
- Promotes social interaction between graduate students and faculty/staff (see Events)
- Organizes Psychfest, a one-day conference in which 2nd-year MA students, and PhD students who obtained a Master’s degree outside UBC, present their thesis research to the department
- Helps the department maintain the teaching standards as set out in the Graduate Student Handbook (requires login in to PSYC AIR)
- Helps the faculty/staff in the day-to-day running of the department (see our committee roles)
- Liaises with UBC’s Graduate Student Society
- Brings up any inequality with regards to the graduate students as a whole
